Deep in the forest I walked one day
with heavy heart and tears.
The sorrow I felt was much too great;
I had carried it for many years.
Along the path, to the left, I heard
a rustling in the leaves.
Drying my eyes, I knelt to peek,
seeing what no one really believes.

A tiny faerie was hidden there.
She smiled up at me.
With bright blue eyes and gossamer wings,
She climbed up on my knee.
"I'm here for you," she stated.
"To help you with your grief.
To lighten the load you carry
and give you sweet relief."

"Too many years I've seen you sad,
crying as you walk.
Today I'll be beside you;
Things change this day....we'll talk."
And talk we did, 'til twilight fell.
My sorrows poured forth like rain.
She stayed with me; she cried some too
because she felt my pain.

"I must go back now," she softly said.
"I have more work to do;
But see this basket sitting here?
It was meant for only you."
"It holds those things that made you sad.
From this day forth...they are no more.
I send them away on wings of flight,
That's what Butterflys are for."

My eyes were filled with tears of joy
as she smiled up at me....
"May I ask your name? I'd love to know.
You've made me feel so free."
So in my hand, I brought her close;
my ear to her I bend.
"I'm always here, I'll never leave.
You simply call me.. Friend."
