"Waiting For Someone To Care"
by Vernie Attaway ? 1990

The golden hair that once she knew
Has changed to locks of grey;
Her brittle, weakened bones demand
Attention everyday.

Arthritis aches in every joint
Bringing constant pain;
She leans upon the safety of
Her hand-carved wooden cane.

She spends her final days on earth
Alone ~~~ behind closed doors;
No one stops to say hello
Nor help her with her chores.

She counts each minute on the clock
And treasures every one;
For these will be her memories
When the day is finally done.

Her aging smile is rarely seen
Her wisdom goes unheard;
'Cause no one has the time to give
Attention to her words.

In her home, alone, she sits
While rocking in her chair;
Counting minutes ~~~ waiting for
Someone to show they care.
