"Three Wishes"

Three Wishes

~For Wendy~
I love you and I'm so glad
we're also Friends... Mom

When I was young and choosing plans
to make my life complete,
I asked the Lord for just three things;
Three wishes I'd hoped He'd want to meet.

A nursing career was number one.
He granted me that choice.
Next came a large September wedding.
He must have heard my voice.
The third wish that I'd asked for
Was highest on my list.
It wasn't for simply "a baby";
The gender must not be missed!!

A baby girl I'd begged for.
Please Lord.....not a boy.
Frilly dresses and long gold tresses
Were what would bring great joy.
So in July of '69
God granted my last wish.
A screaming, red-faced tiny bundle;
Are You sure I asked for This??

The red face finally disappeared
And it was then just fat.
The screaming slowly tapered off;
Oh Thank God for that!!
What a Sweetheart she became
As years and years sped past.
But not from anything I did.
I sort-of messed up that task.

She's had some major set-backs;
But steadily plodded on.
And has become a source of pride
To her rapidly aging Mom.
Through all the heartaches we've endured;
Our Friendship stands its ground.
When God gave me that little girl;
He knew our great love would abound.
